    Hi,

I like to apologise in advance if this isn’t a tech question but rather excel question. I am trying to use Alt= hot key to derive the = sum. For some unknown reason my notebook started to take the key stroke combo as a command to cause the following issues. 1. all the cell do nolonger accept function such as = (it appears to be a text) rather than the short key for function. Also, anything typed say example “sum” appears spaced out between the letters “s u m”. Obviously, it no longer is a function.

Do you guys have any clue what is going on? For the above reasons, “Alt =” doesn’t work on my PC unfortunately.

    Much appreciated your help.

    Aaron

Aaron – that’s really odd. First time I’ve heard of this issue. I did a bit of searching online to see if I could find a solution. It appears the solution likely depends on what operating system and version of Excel you’re using, and how your keyboard is setup in terms of accessibility features and language options.

I found a thread online where someone is having, what appears to be, the same issue as you:

    Alt + = not working Excel 2016 : excel (reddit.com)

Are you using a non-English keyboard? If so, my guess is the issue is related to how the keys are mapped. And that when you click ALT+=, the keyboard reads that as a different set of keys.

You might also check out these forum threads. There are a couple of possible solutions:

alt + = not working in Excel 2010 on my HP laptop – Super User

ALT+= keyboard shortcut not working in my excel 2013 version – Microsoft Community

Wish I could have been more helpful!

    Spencer
