Deep Dive: One Company’s Bold Bet on Solving the Housing Crisis

Back in 2022, we sat down with Aleks Gampel for an episode of the A.CRE Audio Series to talk about an audacious new venture he was co-founding called Cuby Technologies. A long-time follower of A.CRE, Aleks laid out a bold vision for a world where we could build cities in days instead of years. You can revisit that conversation here: S3SP7 – How Innovation is Poised to Disrupt Development.

At the time, it felt like one of the more ambitious ideas we’d ever featured. Mobile factories. Systematized construction. A ground-up rethink of how homes get built. But unlike the usual PropTech pitch from outsiders trying to disrupt an industry they don’t really understand, Aleks brought something different -real-world development experience.

As someone who started my career developing land and entitling subdivisions (not to mention crawling through crawlspaces plumbing new homes as a teenager), I’ve seen first-hand how hard it is to deliver housing affordably, at scale. So, when Aleks described a plan to bring the factory to the site using mobile micro-factories, it immediately piqued my interest.

Fast forward to 2025. The housing crisis has only intensified, and we’re pleased to share that Cuby’s progress.

The Documentary: Cuby in Action

Cuby’s progress was recently captured in a new documentary by Beyond, a tech-focused YouTube channel known for its deep dives into how humanity is solving real-world problems.

Titled Cuby: Inside the Secret Factory Building Homes to End the Housing Crisis, the film offers a behind-the-scenes look at how Cuby has spent over 400,000 engineering hours rethinking how we build homes. Viewers are taken from their R&D facility in Belarus to the early stages of their first U.S. deployment in Nevada, expected in 2026.

The documentary chronicles Cuby’s evolution from working solution, as shared in our episode with Aleks in 2022, to a technology poised for commercial rollout.

Check it out:

Why This Matters to CRE

If you develop, invest in, or underwrite real estate, this matters. Cuby’s model cuts timelines, improves quality, and potentially reduces dependency on skilled trades—all without changing zoning or building codes.

Imagine cutting your construction duration in half, slashing labor needs, and still delivering product that meets code and consumer expectations.

This isn’t a whiteboard idea. It’s been prototyped, tested, refined. And now, it’s heading into commercialization.

A Personal Reflection

One of the reasons Cuby stood out to us back in 2022 was that it wasn’t just another tech-for-tech’s-sake story. This was developers and engineers who deeply understood the pain points of our industry and were putting their heads together to solve the biggest problem in housing.

As someone who’s seen both sides of this, from the physical toil of plumbing homes to the financial challenge of getting deals to pencil, I find Cuby’s thesis compelling. I’m excited to see this vision play out in the coming years.

So, Aleks and Oleg. When you’ve built more homes in America than anyone else in history, don’t forget us here at A.CRE! We’ll be watching, cheering you on, and hoping this truly is the start of a housing revolution.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cuby Technologies and the Future of Housing Development

What is Cuby Technologies?

Cuby Technologies is a startup focused on solving the housing crisis through a radically different approach to homebuilding. Their model involves using mobile micro-factories to construct housing more efficiently and affordably. “This was developers and engineers who deeply understood the pain points of our industry and were putting their heads together to solve the biggest problem in housing.”

How is Cuby’s approach different from traditional construction?

Instead of centralizing production, Cuby brings the factory to the site using mobile micro-factories. This systematized approach reduces build time, cuts labor dependency, and maintains code compliance. “Imagine cutting your construction duration in half, slashing labor needs, and still delivering product that meets code and consumer expectations.”

What progress has Cuby made since 2022?

Since 2022, Cuby has logged over 400,000 engineering hours and moved from R&D to early deployment. “Viewers are taken from their R&D facility in Belarus to the early stages of their first U.S. deployment in Nevada, expected in 2026.”

What does the new documentary on Cuby showcase?

The documentary, titled Cuby: Inside the Secret Factory Building Homes to End the Housing Crisis, showcases Cuby’s journey from concept to commercial readiness, emphasizing their R&D and upcoming deployment in Nevada.

Why should CRE professionals care about Cuby?

Cuby’s model could transform real estate economics by reducing construction time, improving quality, and requiring fewer skilled laborers—all without changing zoning or codes. “If you develop, invest in, or underwrite real estate, this matters.”

How is Cuby different from other PropTech startups?

Unlike many PropTech startups that lack real estate experience, Cuby’s founders are seasoned developers. “Aleks brought something different—real-world development experience.”

Where is Cuby currently operating?

As of 2025, Cuby operates an R&D facility in Belarus and is preparing its first U.S. deployment in Nevada, scheduled for 2026.

What inspired A.CRE to highlight Cuby’s story?

The founders of A.CRE were impressed by Cuby’s grounded, ambitious approach to solving a real industry problem. “This wasn’t just another tech-for-tech’s-sake story.”
