Transbay Transit Center & City Park

The Transbay Transit Center is the focal point of the revitalization effort of downtown San Francisco. Dubbed the ‘Grand Central Station of the West’, the new $2.3 billion, five-story Transit Center, designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, is both massive and architecturally unrivaled.

Project Facts

Transit Center Website: www.transbaycenter.org/
Developer: TJPA
Architects: Pelli Clarke Pelli
Contractor: Webcor and Obayashi
Asset Type: Transportation Center /Public Park/Retail
Expected Completion: Late 2017

Sectional Overview
Park Level:

Three levels above grade, the top level of the Transit Center will be a new 5.4 acre above ground, roof top city park. City Park will contain an outdoor amphitheater, gardens, trails, open space, fields, play space for children, and a restaurant and cafe.

Bus Level:ttc-section-1

The fourth level will be the bus deck which is directly connected to the new bus-only Transbay Bridge that comes directly off of the 80 after the Bay Bridge. This will be the primary center for AC Transit bus service to operate service from the East Bay.

Ground Level:

The ground floor is the architecturally stunning main entry to the Transit Center. Rather than try to explain it, it will be much easier and more beneficial for everyone reading to just view the pictures in the slide show below. In addition to the aesthetic grandeur of the ground floor, the space will include retail, a public information center, ticket booths and escalators. There will also be an additional bus plaza along the east end that will serve MUNI, Golden Gate Transit, and SamTrans.

Lower Concourse Level:

This is the one area that seems to be a bit vague with regards to programming. It seems to be primarily a connecting floor between the ground floor and the train station platform below with some additional retail thrown in and bike storage.

Train Platform Level:

Two levels below grade, this level will include three passenger platforms and six tracks for Caltrain and the California High Speed Rail (hopefully).
