From time to time, I’m asked to share more complex development models that I’ve used professional. Unfortunately, most of the models that I’ve used professionally were built in partnership with others, and so I’m not at liberty to share those models openly. However, a couple of years ago, a friend at Cornell shared a resource with me that I think might satisfy those of you who are wanting to toy around with more robust real estate models.
Envision Tomorrow, a suite of urban regional planning tools, happens to include several developer and builder ROI models that I think are quite good. And best of all, they offer their models free of charge. They also offer free urban development planning and analysis tools that serve a host of other objectives besides calculating financial feasibility. Their analysis tools run the real estate analysis gamut, from redevelopment models to workforce housing models, from location efficiency tools to travel behavior tools. These free resources are definitely worth checking out.
If you are interested in checking out some of the models Mike and I have shared publicly, you can find them in our Excel models section.
